Foundation is a charity which has a long
history,having been established originally for
the benefit of the former Prescot Grammar School
and its pupils.With the agreement of the Charity
Commission these benefits can be extended to any
successor educational institution to Prescot
The successor institution which
currently thus qualifies is the Knowsley Centre
composition of the Board of Trustees is currently
twelve persons,consisting of councillors
there is the Headteacher and the Vicar of Prescot
as ex officio members;the remainder are persons
co-opted for their knowledge of,and commitment
to,the local community.
current Chair is Mr Eddie OHara,a former
Chair of the Schools Governing Body and
Secretary is Mr Des Roberts,a former pupil and
Treasurer is Mr Mark Salmon,a former pupil of the
School and a local businessman.
Trustees have investments from which they receive
quarterly income.From which income they maintain
at a high cost the buildings of Tan-y-Graig,a
property the Trustees bought for the benefit of
pupils as a residential extramural studies
Trustees meet regularly,and ,amidst other
business,make grants and awards to the Centre and
to individuals for equipment and activities,
funding for which would not be available from
the local authority ,nor from the core budget of
the Centre for Learning.
recent meeting the Trustees were pleased to
receive a request from various School departments
for funding in the form of eleven applications,of
which the Trustees granted ten at a total cost of
amount was extraordinarily large and was possible
because there had been a lack of applications in
the recent past.
funding will not always be possible,but the
Trustees welcome applications ,which will be
considered subject to the level of funding
available,to the conditions for funding agreed by
the Charity Commission,and to their being deemed
worthy of support by the Trustees.
