THE PRESCOT SCHOOL ENDOWMENT FUND – SUMMARY OF INTENT AND ACTIVITIES FOR THE PURPOSE OF PUBLICITY TO STAFF, PUPILS AND THE CENTRE’S GOVERNING BODY
,,,,,,,
The Foundation is a charity which has a long history, having been established originally for the benefit of the former Prescot Grammar School and its pupils. With the agreement of the Charity Commission these benefits can be extended to any successor educational institution to Prescot Grammar School.

The successor institution which currently thus qualifies is the Knowsley Centre for Learning.

The composition of the Board of Trustees is currently twelve persons, consisting of councillors representing Prescot(1),Whiston(1),and Knowsley(2).

Also there is the Headteacher and the Vicar of Prescot as ex officio members;the remainder are persons co-opted for their knowledge of,and commitment to,the local community.

The current Chair is Mr Eddie O’Hara,a former Chair of the School’s Governing Body and former MP.

The Secretary is Mr Des Roberts,a former pupil and teacher.

The Treasurer is Mr Mark Salmon,a former pupil of the School and a local businessman.

The Trustees have investments from which they receive quarterly income. From which income they maintain at a high cost the buildings of Tan-y-Graig,a property the Trustees bought for the benefit of pupils as a residential extramural studies centre.

The Trustees meet regularly, and ,amidst other business, make grants and awards to the Centre and to individuals for equipment and activities, funding for which would not be available from  the local authority ,nor from the core budget of the Centre for Learning.

At a recent meeting the Trustees were pleased to receive a request from various School departments for funding in the form of eleven applications,of which the Trustees granted ten at a total cost of approximately 20,000.

This amount was extraordinarily large and was possible because there had been a lack of applications in the recent past.

Similar funding will not always be possible, but the Trustees welcome applications ,which will be considered subject to the level of funding available,to the conditions for funding agreed by the Charity Commission, and to their being deemed worthy of support by the Trustees.

D,J.ROBERTS,SECRETARY AND TRUSTEE, January,2014.
